A Librarian’s Desire, the first book in my newest series, came out in July. (The next book, A Soldier’s Woman, comes out Sept 9th.)

What inspired you to write this book?
Fans had been asking me to write more about the characters from my Homecoming series, The Librarian’s Love, The Soldier’s Return, and The Wedding Night. Finally, I started hearing the character’s voices again and decided that I just had to write the prequels, A Librarian’s Desire, A Soldier’s Woman, and A Surprising Day.
How did you choose the title for this book?
I played off the title from the previous book so readers would know without a doubt which book is the prequel to which.
Can you share an excerpt from the book with us?
Excerpt
“Are you all right?” She rubbed a finger along her slender neck just above her pulse point, then nodded.
“Thank you, kind sir.”
She’d be all right, but he’d have to keep a close eye on her from now on. Who knew what would have happened if he hadn’t been there when Benny had come on to her? She didn’t seem to be here with anyone, so she was fair game to any of his brothers, who wouldn’t have a second thought about her when they finished.
“Let’s play Never Have I Ever.” The innocuous blonde who sat across the coffee table clapped her hands and bounced with excitement.
“How do you play?” his best friend, Todd asked, joining the group with a fresh cup of beer.
The bubbly bimbo turned to face him, waving her hands around and grinning like a fool as she spoke. “Okay, so you say ’Never have I ever’, and then you tell something you’ve never done. Everyone who has done that has to put up a finger and take a drink. When someone has all his or her fingers up, the game is over. So, who wants to play?”
A chorus of “yeah” came from around the table, and from the drunken lady beside him.
She plans to continue drinking?
It was more obvious with each passing moment that she really didn’t know what she was getting herself into. Daniel would have to protect this lady in the midst of these dragons.
“Never have I ever had a threesome in a graveyard.” The first girl smiled at her friend, who popped a finger in the air and drank a shot.
“You did that on purpose,” said the brunette who’d just had her drink. “Okay, never have I ever given head to a guy in the bathroom of a gas station.” The brunette lifted her eyebrows at her friend who chose to lift her middle finger as she took a gulp of beer.
Todd lifted his beer and winked at the girls. “Never have I ever given a man head at all. Drink up, ladies.
“The librarian didn’t giggle and drink as the others did. Straightlaced. He knew it. She probably hadn’t done more than let little Frankie Peterson steal a kiss in second grade. She rubbed the back of her finger along her neck and played with a wisp of hair while looking toward the ceiling.
“Never have I ever toushed a frog.” Her nose wrinkled and the tip of a pink tongue jutted out.
He smiled. So innocent, she didn’t even understand the point. The intention of the game was to make revelations of a sexual nature. Ultimately, the game was meant to entice the drunken fool across from you into bed for the evening by confessing the raunchiest sexual secrets you could think of.
When the blonde on the other side of the table looked at him, he shook his head, letting her know he had no intention of playing. She pouted and her eyes widened, but her bright red lips held no interest for him. He shook his head again.
“Never have I ever…” A tall brunette jerked at her too-short miniskirt. “Never have I ever watched two people have sex. Drink up, guys.”
The librarian’s finger popped up. His jaw dropped before he could stop it.
Did she understand the question?
She took a drink.
Apparently so.
Now can you please tell us a little about yourself?
Ava Delany is an alter ego, the dark and erotic side of an enigma. She comes out to play in the consummate darkness of midnight and hides again with the coming sun. Who is she? Hard to tell. You may enjoy trying to discover her secrets if you come into her world and play in the dark.
What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?
That’s a good question. I’m not really sure. Probably the fact that I have to write every
scene naked.
Just kidding… or am I?
What do you think is the most important to remember when writing romance?
Remember the romance. I think a lot of writers, erotic romance writers and short story writers especially, forget that an erotic romance is first and foremost, a romance. Keeping that emotional momentum between the characters is critical, whether you’re writing a
500 word or 500 page story.
What genres and authors would we find you reading when taking a break from your own writing?
I’d be reading research books, historical romance, romantic suspense, suspense and thrillers, comedy, and so many others. I love to read. 🙂
How much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing?
I put different parts of my own personality into every story. I include a lot of my own life experiences too. I think that’s what makes writing such a hard thing sometimes. You have to include parts of yourself you might not be comfortable with.
Tell us your story of “getting published”:
I sent out to a number of publishers and was very happy to receive a number of publishing offers. I was so excited, and I chose Breathless Press because of Justyn’s enthusiasm and the beautiful BP covers. They gave me a wonderful opportunity and taught me a lot
along the way. I can’t say anything but thank you to them.
What were you doing when you received your first contract?
Two words: Snoopy dance.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on a paranormal romantic suspense novel based on the coming Dec 2012 Mayan calendar change. I’ve also got a trilogy coming out now. A Librarian’s Desire is out now, A Soldier’s Woman comes out Sept 9, and A Surprising Day comes out Nov 11.
